Assistant Manager – Human Resources

 

Ceylon Cold Stores PLC (CCS), manufacturer of Elephant House Soft Drinks and Ice Creams is a leading consumer food company in Sri Lanka. CCS is a subsidiary of John Keells Holdings PLC.

 

The company is seeking a suitably qualified candidate to fill the position of Assistant Manager – Human Resources. This role is responsible for managing the complete onboarding to offboarding process for Executive and Above staff at CCS, supporting the Performance Management System (PMS), and driving employee engagement initiatives. Additionally, the role involves attending to disciplinary inquiries concerning Executive and AM level employees, preparing monthly HR reports, and contributing to various ad hoc HR initiatives as required. The position plays a key role in ensuring the smooth and complaint functioning of HR operations in alignment with organizational and statutory guidelines.

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee the end-to-end recruitment process for Executive-level and above roles, ensuring strategic alignment, process efficiency, and a high-quality candidate experience from sourcing to final selection and onboarding.
  • Coordinate Business Unit (BU) and Sector-level inductions for all new joiners to ensure seamless onboarding, cultural integration, and early engagement.
  • Monitor and manage employment lifecycle activities such as confirmations, internal transfers, and exits, ensuring timely execution and accurate system updates.
  • Lead the full offboarding process, coordinating all necessary clearances and ensuring accurate and timely processing of final settlements in compliance with company policies.
  • Identify opportunities for HR digitalization and collaborate with IT to implement tech-enabled solutions that enhance operational efficiency, data accuracy, and user experience.
  • Collaborate with category heads to determine workforce requirements and finalize headcount budgets during annual planning and mid-year reforecasting cycles.
  • Ensure timely and accurate data submission for payroll processing, performance bonuses, and annual insurance renewals, coordinating with Payroll and Finance teams.
  • Provide approachable and solution-oriented HR support to both internal and external stakeholders, promoting a culture of professionalism, responsiveness, and trust.
  • Prepare and submit accurate, timely reports, both periodic and ad hoc to management and relevant stakeholders to support strategic decision-making and ensure compliance.
  • Implement the annual employee engagement calendar, delivering all activities within budget to foster employee morale, collaboration, and a positive organizational culture.
  • Oversee disciplinary inquiry processes, ensuring timely execution, proper documentation, and compliance with company policies and legal frameworks.
  • Manage the full Performance Management cycle, ensuring timely completion of objective setting, mid-year reviews, and 360-degree feedback in alignment with corporate guidelines.
  • Maintain HR operational excellence, driving continuous improvement, legal compliance, and alignment with broader business strategies and organizational goals.

Person Specifications

  • Possess a degree in Human Resource Management or a CIPM qualification (or an equivalent), along with 4–5 years of hands-on experience in a similar role
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of operations within the FMCG or manufacturing industries, along with comprehensive knowledge of modern HR functions, systems, and best practices
  • Possess strong knowledge of Sri Lankan labor laws, industry and market standards, as well as disciplinary inquiry procedures, including compliance requirements and dispute resolution framework
  • Demonstrates strong business acumen, analytical thinking, and innovative problem-solving abilities, with excellent communication, adaptability, negotiation, decision-making, organizational skills, and keen attention to detail.
