Ceylon Cold Stores PLC (CCS), manufacturer of Elephant House Soft Drinks and Ice Creams is a leading consumer food company in Sri Lanka. CCS is a subsidiary of John Keells Holdings PLC.
The company is seeking a suitable candidate to fill the position of Financial Controller. The position exists to support the Food & Beverages operations of Consumer Food Sector to deliver value to the organizations and to assist the finance function to proactively support the operational and finance requirements of the business units.
The candidate will lead the financial accounting, reporting, and governance framework for the sector and be held responsible for ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, strong internal controls, effective working-capital management, robust credit management and full compliance with statutory, regulatory, and Group requirements. The position plays a key role in business partnering, enabling strategic decision-making and driving financial performance across the sector.
Job Responsibilities
- Overseeing the preparation of accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with Group Accounting Policies and relevant accounting standards; Ensure completeness, accuracy, and integrity of general ledger and financial records across all business units; Lead month-end and year-end closing processes and ensure submission deadlines are consistently met.
- Tracking all business activities (sales, purchases, expenses, assets, and liabilities); maintaining fixed-asset registers; accounting for business-partner transactions; recognizing and valuing stocks; and managing payments in order to ensure the completeness and accuracy of recorded transactions and the reliable reporting of the organization’s financial performance and position.
- Evaluate current systems; develop & streamline processes; review and advice on credit periods; strategize on working capital funding; liaise/negotiate with banks for working capital funds; allocate funds as per plans in order to ensure that funds are used effectively.
- Monitor compliance with statutory norms; address critical auditor queries; improve effectiveness & oversee compliance with financial processes; take action for non-compliances; present reports; guide functions in order to minimize non-compliances.
- Assess business impact of amendments in laws; advise heads on future action steps for effective tax planning; monitor trends; review tax computations, returns etc.; document and maintain records; initiate corrective steps in order to reduce tax liabilities for the units.
- Provide inputs for defining internal controls; check consistency in systems adherence; review and validate the data in 'Operations System'; interface with SAP; generate necessary reports; control variances; provide corrective actions in order to ensure smooth operations.
- Interact with banks & other external parties including statutory bodies and Auditors; negotiate rates through treasury on interest, exchange rates etc. address queries; advise functions on critical issues in order to build strong networks & resolution of issues.
- Analyze data on efficiency and utilization; recommend corrective strategies; adopt best practices; identify effective systems & processes to be implemented in order to increase system/process efficiency levels.
Person Specifications
- BSc degree in Accountancy, Associate/Fellow Member of CA Sri Lanka, Associate member of Chartered Institute of Management Accountants UK/ ACCA, 8+ years of experience in Financial Accounting preferably in FMCG or manufacturing industry.
- Best practices and world trends in manufacturing & Food and Beverage Industry.
- Knowledge in Financial Accounting, Treasury and working capital management, Taxation Management & Planning.
- Broad Understanding of Forex, Statutory/Regulatory Requirements and SAP ERP Systems.
- Strategic Thinking; Business Acumen and Financial analystical skills; Innovative; Communication; Adaptability; Negotiation; Decision Taking and Problem Solving; Attention to detail.
