BI Engineer - Octave: Data and Advanced Analytics Centre of Excellence

Role Objective
Support the design, development, and maintenance of business intelligence reports and dashboards. The role focuses on gathering reporting requirements from business users, transforming data into meaningful insights, and developing interactive visualizations that support decision-making. The individual will work closely with business stakeholders, data engineers, and data scientists while following BI best practices to ensure report accuracy, usability, and performance.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain dashboards and reports using Power BI and other visualization tools.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand reporting requirements, KPIs, and business objectives, and translate them into effective BI solutions.
- Assist in data preparation activities, including data cleansing, validation, and transformation in collaboration with data engineers and data scientists.
- Support the development and enhancement of self-service reporting solutions and dashboard capabilities.
- Monitor and troubleshoot existing dashboards and reports to ensure data accuracy and optimal performance.
- Apply BI and data visualization best practices to create intuitive, user-friendly, and impactful reports.
- Stay updated on emerging BI technologies, tools, and visualization trends and recommend improvements where relevant.
- Support user training, knowledge-sharing sessions, and documentation related to BI reports and dashboards.
Qualifications
- 2-3 years of experience in business intelligence, reporting, dashboard development, data analytics, or related areas.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Data Analytics, or a related field.
Skills & Competencies Required
- Proficiency in Power BI for dashboard and report development.
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of SQL and experience working with structured datasets.
- Familiarity with data analysis, reporting, and KPI tracking.
- Understanding of data modelling concepts and ETL processes is an advantage.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Good communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain insights to non-technical stakeholders.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and data visualization principles.
- Exposure to cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud would be an added advantage.
- Understanding of visualization best practices, including layout, colour usage, storytelling, and user-centric design.
- Eagerness to learn new technologies and work collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
