Principal Data Engineer - Octave: Data and Advanced Analytics Centre of Excellence

Team Octave will solve JKH’s most intractable problems across industry verticals by building pipelines using Python and Azure data factory to work on one of the country’s richest data lakes, building and implementing complex machine learning algorithms which will impact millions of Sri Lankans.
We are looking for driven and enthusiastic analytics practitioners for our Data and Advanced Analytics Centre of Excellence- Octave.
The Technical Lead will be responsible for maintaining conceptual and logical data architecture for all data. This person will be responsible for definition, conception and construction of bid data platforms and solutions. In this role, the tech lead manages all data-related aspects of projects (data lake, data warehouse, operational data store, and reporting). This person also supports the definition of data architecture roadmap and helps in selection and implementation of data technologies.
The tech lead drives the team’s engineering practices in test driven development, continuous integration, and automated deployment. This person is the primary point of contact for data management within the Center of Excellence. This person will also role model and inspire a data driven mindset in the organization.
- Use Big Data programming languages and technology, write code, complete programming and documentation, and perform testing and debugging of applications
- Manage data management strategy across all use cases
- Set the long-term strategy of the data engineering team
- Understand latest analytics tools and technologies and determine fit with current architecture
- Collaborate with technical teams to develop and maintain a flexible framework
- Interact with the Business divisions to understand all data requirements to develop business insights for Octave and translate them into data structures and data model requirements
- Create and maintain vendor relationships to stay abreast with latest big data technology and solutions
Education + Technical skills / experience
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or Statistics
- 10+ years of experience with the tech stack required for analytics and enterprise systems
- Expertise in developing applications in a high volume ETL environment and proficiency in advanced SQL skills; master data management
- 5+ years of experience using Python
- Expert in at least two of the following data tools such as Hive, Spark, Hadoop, or Presto
- Expertise in Azure and cloud services
- 5+ Years managing a Data management or Analytics team
