Research Scientist

John Keells Research (JKR) is the R&D and Innovation arm of John Keells Holdings PLC. JKR is responsible for developing novel technologies in their core areas of Composites, Energy Storage, Biomaterials, and Mechatronics.

Responsibilities as a Research Scientist at JKR chemistry team will include:

 

  • Industrial problem-solving with chemistry knowledge to develop technically and commercially viable solutions under the supervision of the JKR Chemistry Team Leader, Head of JKR and Principle Scientific Advisor.
  • Scale up scientific research to industrial solutions. Expectation is the provision of input to team performing the scaleup.
  • Idea generation and idea validation through laboratory testing.
  • Learning new theories related to the chemistry field and applying them in the project work to ensure cutting-edge solutions with a special focus in either the Composites and/or Energy storage core area of JKR. With the support of the Principle Scientific Advisor.
  • Ensure that the R&D work is conducted within the timelines of the project as communicated by the Chemistry team leader.
  • Ensuring all lab work is done adhering health and safety policy of JKR.
  • Diligent maintenance of lab notebooks.
  • Writing specifications, instructions, and reports, and handling other required administrative duties.
  • Proactively support teamwork within the Chemistry team and overall JKR team.

The ideal candidate would have:

 

  • BSc in degree in Chemistry.
  • Fresh graduates are welcome.
  • Excellent understanding of chemical handling and testing and scaleup considerations.
  • Hands-on experience with analytical instruments (FTIR, X-RD,Raman spectroscopy, UV-visible) would be an additional plus point.
  • Willingness to work with multidisciplinary research teams to engage in hi-tech solution development.
  • Excellent research, technical and communication (both written and verbal) skills.
  • Organizational skills with the ability to plan ahead while delivering to deadlines.
  • Patience and the ability to work methodically and meticulously when following scientific techniques and company procedures.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data.
