Finance Manager

Job Responsibilities

 

The Finance Manager will be responsible for leading the finance function of Mackinnons Travels, ensuring sound financial management, strategic planning support, and compliance with statutory and group governance standards. This role involves overseeing accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, and working capital management, while driving process efficiency and supporting business growth.

 

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Oversee day-to-day finance operations, including general ledger management, accounts payable, receivable, and cash flow.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in line with John Keells Group reporting standards.
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data and compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Manage internal and external audits, ensuring timely completion and resolution of audit observations.

 

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Lead the preparation of annual budgets and rolling forecasts in collaboration with business and operational teams.
  • Monitor budget performance, analyze variances, and provide insights to management for informed decision-making.

 

Cash Flow & Working Capital Management

  • Manage cash flow, liquidity, and working capital to ensure efficient utilization of financial resources.
  • Review supplier payments, collections, and credit control to maintain a healthy financial position.

 

Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure full compliance with taxation requirements including VAT, SSCL, WHT, and corporate income tax.
  • Adhere to internal control policies, John Keells Group governance standards, and relevant accounting principles.
  • Oversee the accuracy of ERP and accounting system entries and recommend system/process improvements.

 

Business Partnership & Leadership

  • Act as a financial advisor to management by providing analysis, insights, and recommendations to drive business performance.
  • Collaborate with operational teams to evaluate new business opportunities, cost structures, and efficiency measures.
  • Lead, develop, and mentor the finance team to build capability and ensure a culture of accountability and excellence.

Person Specifications

 

  • Fully qualified in CA Sri Lanka, ACCA, or CIMA (MBA or equivalent postgraduate qualification would be an advantage).
  • Minimum 7–10 years of progressive experience in finance and accounting, including at least 3 years in a managerial capacity, preferably within the travel, airline, or hospitality industry.
  • Strong technical knowledge of financial reporting, taxation, and local statutory requirements.
  • Hands-on experience in ERP/accounting systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar) and proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, leadership, and communication skills, with a proven ability to work collaboratively across teams.
