The Job Role:

The person is responsible in assisting policy underwriting for products sold by agents and to support the Agency Underwriting Team.

Principle Accountabilities:

• Assess and underwrite policy applications in line with company guidelines, delegated authority limits, and regulatory requirements.
• Evaluate risks, verify customer information, and determine policy eligibility.
• Liaise with agents, policyholders, labs, and medical practitioners to obtain information and ensure timely processing.
• Process policy endorsements, maintain underwriting records, and resolve underwriting queries and escalations.
• Ensure compliance with underwriting standards, regulatory requirements, and audit recommendations.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to improve underwriting efficiency and service delivery.
• Monitor and report underwriting performance metrics, including service levels, rejection rates, and pending cases.
• Support process improvements, system enhancements, and automation initiatives to increase underwriting productivity.
• Conduct training and provide updates to stakeholders on underwriting processes and improvements.
• Manage lab and doctor payments, resolve discrepancies, and maintain effective external relationships to support underwriting operations

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum 3- 5 years’ experience in Life Insurance industry.
• CIP - SLII or Part / Full Qualification in Dip -CII / AIII is essential
• Experience in a Life Insurance Underwriting Department will be an added advantage.
• Good understanding and knowledge about competitor products and practices, trends & developments in the life insurance market in Sri Lanka
• Fair understanding on regulatory framework of Insurance industry
• Very Good knowledge on life underwriting (medical & financial), diseases, medical procedures and their impact to longevity and disability, medical tests and their interpretations.
• Fair knowledge on reinsurance arrangements.  
• Broad knowledge in Microsoft office applications 
• Ability to work under minimum supervision, multi-task and work under pressure
• A self-motivated individual as well as a team player
